FIJI STAG

Our group of four guys meet every Sunday morning for some men's doubles tennis at the Millennium Sports Club in Vallejo, CA. Teams are selected based on a rating system using the average score of the most current 10 sets played by each player. Currently, the regulars are Larry, John, Rich and Cyp. Larry coordinates the assignments for balls and refreshments after tennis.

The ratings were 8, 8, 8.3, 7.5. Average: 7.95

I was wondering why Rich and John were partners when their rankings were both higher than Zack and Larry's?

The pairings were based on the ratings published the previous week.
