FIJI STAG

Our group of four guys meet every Sunday morning for some men's doubles tennis at the Millennium Sports Club in Vallejo, CA. Teams are selected based on a rating system using the average score of the most current 10 sets played by each player. Currently, the regulars are Larry, John, Rich and Cyp. Larry coordinates the assignments for balls and refreshments after tennis.

Sunday, February 19, 2006

Bob Safer took Cyp's place today.

SALSA TASTING

Larry's entry was Newman's Own All Natural, Chunky, Medium from Safeway. The ratings were:

6.0, 7.2, 7.5, 8.0. Average: 7.18

The Bird rated it a '5' (after several samples)

TENNIS

John and Larry over Bob and zack 6-3, 6-1.

FIJI RATING

Up to now, we have selected teams at random. Today we discussed changing the process by keeping track of each player's win record, averaging the total games won over the number of sets played. The teams are determined by pairing 1 and 4 versus 2 and 3 to obtain a more even match.

I went back 4 months to get some data and I came up with these ratings:

John 6.0
Rich Taylor 4.8
Larry 4.25
Zack 4.07
Cyp 4.0
Richard Christo 3.0
Bob Safer 2.0

The FIJI Ratings will be updated weekly.

Using the FIJI Rating System to select teams should provide more competitive play than simply selecting teams randomly.

The rating system should be titled "STAG Rating system". FIJI only applies to the 4 regular members of STAG.
